    Cigarette Packets

      So I was reading on the news today that there is a debate going on as to whether cigarette packets should be made to look less fancy and more dull and plain possibly with a bigger image on them showing what damage smoking can cause.

      What are your thought? Do you feel that making the packets more dull and less interesting may deter youngsters away from wanting to smoke so early on?

      I don't see the point seeing as they have to be hidden in supermarkets and large shops already and in small shops in a couple of years.
      You won't be able to see the packet unless you buy it :)

      smoking kills and it is only the power of the tobacco industry that keeps cigarets ever present in the society but I think most of the "West" countries are advancing toward a smoke free society.

      Well the reason why the tobacco industry is still there is because people still love smoking and want the nicotine. It's more of a supply and demand schpeal than "evil tobacco industry". It's also kind of a social thing for many smokers. To other smokers, it's like their "vacation" so to speak. They had a hard day of work, and either during their break, or when they just finished their shift, a nice cigarette gives them as much enjoyment as I do when I eat a lovely slice of pie.

      of course people want to smoke: people want to take all kind of drugs, pay for sex and engage in all kind of harmful activities.
      the wishes of the people are not the reason for a legal drug to be packed in appealing packs....

      the tax on cigs in the uk is massive and if everyone stopped this government would have a massive hole in their budget
      so that would have to be made up by other meens ie more tax on regular items food clothes fuel etc
      its a no win situation,
      so all you anti smokers think about it
