I'm having trouble with my Fathers side of the tree because although my Grandfather was British his father was working in South Africa at the time of his birth (1896) so there is no registry of his birth in this country. As far as I know there is nobody left to ask as I am now the oldest family member :(

I tried to do it before but failed to accomplish anything; might be due to the fact that this part of the world is constantly in some kind of turmoil, war and ...

If you live in the US and have difficulty finding your genealogy, your family was either:

      1. Too poor to afford to keep records

      2. Immigrated to the US recently.

That's the two most common ones I've seen when I've seen families having difficulty tracking that stuff down.

and if I am not living in the USA?
I already stated the reasons so I don't understand what are you trying to say with all of this...

My Mother is really into genealogy, she researches our family's history for centuries. We recently discovered, from my Father's side, that we're biologically related to Joseph Stalin, the leader of the former communist Soviet Union. In some aspects he thinks that's cool, but I think it's kind of a shame.

I love tracing my family tree. I've been doing it for a couple of years now on and off. I'm stuck in the 1700s right now with my fathers side of the family. My mothers side of the family was stupidly easy as far as I can trace it back they have lived in the same tiny town. :giggle:
