Not really a debate or rant, but can't think of a decent place to put this. There's two articles to discuss here, one is where they ask Brits to label all the states in the US, and the other is where they ask Americans to label the various countries in Europe. We can see that both groups failed:

      Brits label the US

      Americans label Europe

I honestly can take a look at a map and point out where I live exactly but in regards to naming all the states on a map in the US I would fail miserably. I vaguely know where some of them are but most of them would either not get named or would be in the wrong place if I tried.

I'm not very good at all, I would need a map for anything including simple directions.

I was fascinated with maps and atlases as a kid and I still think some states are in a different place when I think of them in my head. Like I always imagine New England being under New York instead of next to it and Colorado touching Nevada instead of Utah being between them... I don't know why that is, but if I'm given an unlabeled map I can pretty much write them in correctly.

People, this is why they make bread crumbs, so people like me can find my way about without having to worry about geography. Seriously, I left my hometown in 82 and it was 05 before I actually came home to live again, so much change had occurred I could scarcely find my way around, especially the freeways, they added so many and enlarged a lot also. I look back on it now and remember some of those freeways had gone off on a straight exit and the freeway ended there, now that same freeway is about 8 lanes and goes completely outside of Houston, in 1970 you were almost outside of Houston when the freeway ended. All the systems were being completely rebuilt when I was home that 3 years, now when I finally do go back again I'll have to start all over, but by then I'll probably be too old to drive anyway. Saving all my old bread for when that day comes again.

I have always known traveling to the UK was never going to happen , but I can tell you I completely enjoy the beautiful countryside I see in The Last of the Summer Wine. That's how I envision the UK looking outside the large cities.
