US subscription streaming giant Netflix has today launched in the UK and Ireland, providing a serious challenger to the likes of Amazon's LoveFilm and Sky Movies.

Netflix is available now to subscribers on these shores for a monthly fee of £5.99 in the UK, and 6.99 Euro in Ireland. A one-month free trial is available by visiting Netflix.com.

The content streaming service is available on a range of different devices. The full list is below:

      Windows PC
      iOS phones and tablets
      Android phones and tablets
      PlayStation 3
      Xbox 360
      LG Blu-ray players
      LG Home Theater System
      Samsung Smart TV
      Philips HD Media Player
Roku WD TV Live streaming media player

Subscribers will get unlimited streaming access to a variety of content, including Hollywood and independent movies, new and classic TV shows, documentaries, and children's programming in a specially-designed section called "Just for Kids".

At launch, Netflix is offering TV shows from UK broadcasters the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV, as well as production studios All3Media, CBS, NBCUniversal and Viacom International Media Networks. It will also feature movies from Disney UK & Ireland, Lionsgate UK, MGM, Miramax, Momentum Pictures, Paramount, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox.

Sure wasn't :) I had a few friends that had it and said how brilliant it was and would always be using it and I got jealous because we had an alternative over here but nothing like Netflix, now we have it and I am really pleased with it so far so I am glad they finally came over to the UK :)

Did you manage to sign up without it linking to your Facebook account ?

No, I used a seperate facebook account when I registered. You can register without using your facebook account but I don't think you get your 1 month free trial if you register without Facebook.

Wow, I wish they had netflix here, we aren't getting it in New Zealand and there are no other services like it :(

This will be interesting. I love LoveFilm, and have always found their service good, but I'd like to try a competing company. Wasn't too keen on Amazon.

Well after using Netflix now for just over a week I have made my decision to cancel LoveFilm and stick with Netflix. There range of movies and TV shows is just great and for the price per month it is well worth it.

Anyone else made the swap over or are you sticking with LoveFilm?
