I prefer to have a custom made theme but the prices are too high a lot of the time so it can be difficult so I tend to stick to free ones over custom made.

Right now for MyBB at least, some of the free custom themes appear as good as the premium themes - though it is still early days with MyBB 1.8

I have to admit that I did like MyBB for their free themes because they always had some really nice looking themes that you didn't have to pay for and I always remember being able to find a free theme that would suit without wanting to look further or consider purchasing.

I prefer custom themes, as in, those that I make myself. I want my forum to be a reflection of the hard work I put into it, and I can't do that if I have a premade theme, that is no doubt being used by hundreds, if not thousands of other forums, out there.

My skins may not be as good as the others out there, but at least I can take pride in the fact that they are mine.

Ironically enough, I do have a premade skin, but that is only for the default skin seen by visitors on the forum who aren't logged in.

I did this because MyBB's default theme is ugly, and after the April Fool's prank, I took that opportunity to put up a newer default skin. It is nothing fancy, it is just a skin that was modeled after IPB.

I'm always modifying the original theme, it's kind of a hobby I guess.

I prefer paid/premium or custom themes, but I use free themes, because... $. I will get a custom-made one in the future though.

I use a free theme for my admin forum but I've customized it. For example the color of the original theme was orange and I've changed it to Blue.

I generally use custom themes that I make myself, since I want them to be unique, and I know how to at least make them presentable (though not spectacular :p ).

I have one that came with the forum and two I made. I prefer to have my own, but free ones can work too.

I always feel like if you go custom you're better off. Your site will look unique and un-like others of the same niche. :)

Premium themes are the way to go. Custom themes are very expensive and anyone can steal the design. Free themes, to me, are done in a rush because, well, they're free. I don't really like free themes, they look default and poorly made. Premium themes are not that expensive and look amazing for the most part. Less webmasters will have your theme if you purchase a Premium one rather than using a free one.

Well, I'm currently using a free theme. There is the option to go with a premium theme but I don't have the money for that though. So I just stick with the free theme I am currently using. You still have lots of options when it comes to free themes anyway.
