It is thought that over 70 people have now died in Spain as a result of a train crash which people say was caused by the train going too fast as it came around a bend.

Sky News now has a video up of the train as it came around the bend and crashed, the video is not graphic however it is quite full on and does show the extent of the impact.

Looking at the video it does not seem as though the engine was first to go.

Yes it appears centrifugal force lifted the car behind the engine and it was actually trying to roll while the engine was still on the track. I think trains are a bit too fast now, that's a lot of weight for nature to play with. Only a mile and a half from where I am sitting now we have a repair facility that does maintenance to engines and cars, it is all computerized and has no engineers on the trains as they enter the yard and sit in line to go through the repair process, they are removing and replacing entire axles and traction motors, it is a 24/7 job and at night with my window open I can feel and hear the cars banging into one another as they move down the repair line. I drive down the old farm road next to the facility to go to my cable provider to pay my monthly bill, it goes for about 4 or 5 miles, all these trains that are sitting there are controlled by a computer in the main building. Some of these people that work there are making 45 dollars an hour, wish I had a relative that worked there because that is the only way you will get a job like this in the USA, it's not something you just walk up to and put in the application, it is clearly a good ole boy job, I know this for a fact because I personally know one man that works int he control center here and it was his Father that got him his job years ago! ;0)

Just saw the footage on the TV and it does look like excessive speed was the cause of the crash. Tragic and sad, R. I. P all those who lost their lives.

I agree, the train definitely seemed to be coming round the bend too quickly. Makes you wonder if that was the fault of the driver or if maybe there was some other technical fault.

The news said there is a fail safe built into the control where if at certain points on the route that are speed sensitive it is supposed to over ride the engineer input, seems logical, and maybe it was a failure, once again Murphy's Law rears it's ugly head ...

It seems like the driver is refusing to answer police questions, makes you wonder why he is refusing.

Seems there is and it looks like the driver has been charged and will appear in court. If it does prove to be true and the driver was driving at that speed to cause an accident on purpose I hope he gets what he deserves. There is also speculation though that it could have been the brakes at fault but I can not see them charging him if that is the case or may have been the case.

Oh my, so it seems it was the fault of the train operators. Fancy phoning him when he is doing high speeds on a track such as that that they are bound to know has bends. Shocking how irresponsible people can be.

Yep, they deserve to go to jail for it or should be jailed for causing the accident.
