Wondering, how many of you parents feel the need to search thru your teens room and why?

I have have been missing small things throughout the house, just things like ink pens, my favorite fingernail polish, or a shirt I wear often. So I go in my daughters room, who is almost 21, looking for an ink pens. She is the one that usually cleans off the kitchen counter and the one with the HUGE glass, holding pens next to her bed. So anyhow I found what I was looking for, as I'm leaving I look down and seen my nail polish thru the clear tote drawer thing sitting next to her door, so I'm thinking to myself ok my polish is here what else does she have of mine, well found my shirt wadded up in the corner of her room, so yes I was a bad parent snooping thru things, but I'll let you know that I'm glad I did it. She had the letter that my husband wrote to me the night he left for Iraq. Then I found baby pictures of her brothers that I know I didn't give her. Now if anyone knows me, like Xeva does, I do not give away pictures. I love photography, I have collected since I was a child. Yes I took them back. They are mine. I am aggravated, so aggravated. Reason being because the only way she could have gotten all those pictures is if she went thru my collection. Grrrr......KIDS!
One other thing, the letter upsets me because, my husband went over to fight a war, was blown up twice, almost 3 times and that could have been the last thing he had ever written to me. So she had no right too it.

I don't have any teen rooms to search through :)
If I were you I would sit down calmly with your daughter and explain to her why some of those items are precious to you.If she want's to borrow certain items she only has to ask.
The letter she should not have it is personal to you from your husband.

But if they wanted to borrow anything from me I was lucky they asked
Now they all have left home

I don't have teens yet as all mine are younger than 10 at the moment but I can imagine I will have things like this to come.

My daughter will sometimes go in my bedroom and sneak some of my perfume or some of my makeup which I will find in her bedroom when I go in, but usually telling her she should ask me first makes her realise that it is more polite to ask rather than just take.

But with your situation I do agree she didn't have any right to go through your things and take things and would have been better to have asked you rather than take.

I keep my room neat FYI, and I do a lot of things for my parents that I would stop doing if they invade my personal space.
