If you had to choose between the two which one you preferred to use as a member which one would you choose?

      Xenforo
      vBulletin 4

I feel myself they are both similar however as member I have found I much prefer using Xenforo.

Xenforo is my preference but it doesn't have as many addons etc as VB yet.

She said, "as a member", ;)

I wouldn't prefer any, unless vBulletin slows down the forum owner's server, then I'd prefer xenForo, ;)
But, I really like how xenForo gets me addicted to the forum once I make my first post..

Xenforo is preferred, although I agree with the poster that at the moment, it does not have a lot of hacks. Hacks I liked with vBulletin 4.

Erm.. I just don't see what the quantity of public add-ons have to do with members.

Sure, admins will have to worry about the quantity of public add-ons, but members?? :runaway: They mostly don't even know what add-ons a forum software offers..

When comparing it to any other forum software, for xenForo's first year, they sure had a lot more add-ons than other competitors for their first year.

      So the members don't use add-ons ?

I'll be siding with XenForo. I've always hated VB and with XF's Social network alert system and the visual aspect of it. Stunning.

That is one of the things that drew me to it to be honest especially with the alerts and also the achievements system. When it was first released I wasn't so sure but the more I have used it as a member at other forums I am a member of the more I have grown to like it.

*Ashamed face when I just realised this forums on VB* :p

But yeh, I was skeptical at first when I used it on a forum I was on but hell, it didn't half get the activity pumping and in time, it just grew on me!

Sure, they use the features that it offers.

But, members don't have to worry about what add-on a forum software offers. They just suggest something and the forum administrator either takes it under consideration or does not.

There are administrators that have a team of developers, such as myself, that can get 'em to develop whatever they want for their own forum.

eg. At a pokemon forum, where members don't know a thing about forums or their add-ons. They suggest ideas, not knowing how many add-ons there are.

Admins worry about add-ons, members worry about ideas to suggest, NOT the add-on itself.

Therefore, you're looking at it from a forum administrator's point of view, :nyahnyah:

Then why don't we debate about it? That's why we're here, isn't it? To discuss about whatever and have a good time discussing about it..

If you build your own forum software from scratch, will the members ask for the owner to install this/that add-on?

IGN has a large gaming forum ( they're switching to xenForo, but before they built their own forum software themselves ) . They never had this issue.

If you've ever managed a forum before as a forum administrator, then you're expected to suggest an add-on to someone because you're monitoring 'em.

A regular member for any other forum will not do such a thing, heck, they might not know what an add-on for a forum is..

The only person i know who owns Xenforo made a mess of their forums cause of her lack of experience. And, since switching from MyBB to Xenforo her attitude stinks and she act superior to the other forum owners who are still using free software.

Now another one of my friends is threatening to convert from MyBB to Xenforo and i practically begged him not to, cause he has an amazing forum now.

But it's his choice, obviously. He wants the forum/blog bridge you can get with Xenforo, but i think he is doing very well as is. Anyway, i'm sure it won't affect his attitude, he's a very seasoned smart forum owner, with ten years of experience at forums. So i'm sure he knows what he is doing.

Is it because you think his attitude will change?

People are different in their own little ways.. Forum software doesn't make you superior.. People normally switch from free forum software to paid, once there forums are doing pretty well.

I'd say vbulletin, as opposed to Xenforo. XD But, my love goes to both of them. XD

Xenforo for the price, but lacks lifetime support and upgrades. Only comes in 12 month intervals afterwards you much purchase a new one for $40. Xenforo looks more clean and pops more as well.

vB4 for the mods. It has so many.

All in all I would choose Xenforo! For price and looks. Xenforo is still new so mods/hacks/add-ons will come in due time.

lol, xenforo is indeed snazzy and sexy in looks and appearance. XD And vbulletin could hold the candle to xenforo when it comes to the prize.
