I myself don't go there as I am not a coffee drinker however if I did I think it would be a little weird for them to know me by my name especially if I had only just met them and I probably wouldn't see them again.

It's kind of like going into Tesco and going to the checkout with your shopping and the cashier wanting to know your name before he/she serves you

I don't really mind honestly, never had them asking me my name. XD

The reason they are asking for your name is that there have been complaints about people taking the wrong drinks, that's why they write your name on the cup.

That explains it :) if it's for that purpose then I guess it wouldn't be so bad to give them your name but when it comes down to wanting to be friendly and the such I think it would have to be on a basis of if I wanted to be friendly with the person serving me.

if it's for the purpose of recognizing your drink then it's OK and it doesn't have to be your name, it can be a nickname or anything.

I thought they are doing this everywhere in Starbucks?!

I don't drink at Starbucks myself so I couldn't say for sure to be honest if they are doing it where I live, but yes I do agree with you on that and I didn't think of that, they could do it on a nickname basis.
